A Reeeeeeeeeeeeeally Long HG Post

My Favorite Fight Scene
As I was reading these books, the reader in me hated (and still does) every one them because of the pain, terror, damage they caused. I apreciated the tension and fear they cause me, but I hated the Capitol for every fight they caused. The writer in me loved it. As a good friend and fellow blogger/HG nerd pointed out, the whole trilogy is really a battle of some sort. And I really admire Collins ability to make the reader feel constant fear, gut-twisting fear. I could choose any one fight scene fom the books, but I'll focuse on one in particular: the battle in the pipes under the Capitol. While they were under there, my heart was beating at 90 miles and hour, and I was expecting the sound of lizard mutts every second. I became totally oblivious to everything around me, my whole body tense with fearful anticipation. Then, at the very end, the lizard mutts caught up with them. My fear reached a screaming creschendo. Then Finnick is killed. Selfless innocent Finnick. Collins not only causes us to feel fear as the mutts chase Katniss and her friends, but she shows us the utter depravity of the capitol. When I read this scene, and others, not only did my hear race, but my gut twisted at the horror that is the Capitol. Collins uses her fight scenes to build tension, and also to demonstrate the true nature of the Capitol.

A Scene That Made Me Laugh
There were several of those! Even in some of the most dire situations, I still laughed! One of my favorites is in Catching Fire in the areana when Katniss and Finnick are covered in that medicine that makes them look all ghostly, and they lean in close to Peeta's face and wake him up. I laughed so hard during this scene! And then, of course, there's Haymitch. He has so many great one liners!
"Here's some advice: Stay Alive."
"So it's you and a syringe against the Capitol. See, this is why no one lets you make the plans."
"And that my friends is how a revolution dies."
"You've got about as much charm as a dead slug."

A Scene That Made Me Cry
There were several scenes that made me cry, but one in particular was Rue's death. She was 12 years old. She was like a little bird, leaping from tree to tree, and despite being tossed into the Games, she never seemed to lose her childlike innocence, which made it all the worse when she died. As soon as I met her, I fell in love with her. I hoped all along that they could find a way to beat the capitol, that three could win. But of course it couldn't. So when the spear hit her, I was horrified. And when she asked Katniss to sing...well suffice it to say I lost it. From that point on I was in tears. Not only at the fact that one of my favorite characters was killed, but over the cruel heartlesness of the Capitol.

Deep in the meadow, under the willow
A bed of grass, a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes
And when again they open, the sun will rise.
Here it's safe, here it's warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.
Deep in the meadow, hidden far away
A cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray
Forget your woes and let your troubles lay
And when again it's morning, they'll wash away.
Here it's safe and here it's warm
And here the daisies guard you from every harm
And here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.

A Character You Are Most Like
Suzane Collins writes so that her audience can relate to her characters. I look at all the wonderfully complex characters in the trilogy and wonder if I would react the same way. I can see myself in Prim, who just wants Katniss to be able to stay home. In her anguish as Katniss climbs the stage. When I first read the trilogy, I hated Katniss for her indecisiveness, and selfishness, but after some thought, I realized that really my actions probably wouldn't have been much different. When faced with that much pressure, I would have fallen apart to. Probably more often than Katniss did. I see people like Gale and Finnick and so many others who remained strong in the face of the Capitol, and I wonder, would have been able to do that?

My Favorite Quote
How could you even ask something like that? When there are so many wonderfull quotes to choose from, how could I pick just one? When I try to answer that question my mind is flooded by voices as quotes come to mind. Here are some of my favorites:
"Her's some advice: Stay alive."
-Haymitch
"Why, do you find this distracting?"
-Finnick
"Remember girl on fire, I'm still betting on you."
-Cinna
"So, it's you and a syringe against the Capitol. See this is why no one lets you make the plans."
-Haymitch
"Want a sugar cube?"
-Finnick
"Poor Finnick. Is this the first time you haven't looked pretty?
'Must be.The sensation's completely new. How have you managed it all these years?'
'Just avoid mirrors. You'll forget about it.'
'Not if I keep looking at you.'"
"Jealousy is certainly involved. I also think you're a little hard to swallow. With your tacky romantic drama and your defender-of-the-helpless act. Only it isn't an act, which makes you more unbearable. Please feel free to take this personally."
-Johanna
I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop there! :)
